Tilghman snaps Mayfield winning streak; other scores and notes from week 3

Paducah Tilghman 35, Mayfield 28
The Mayfield win streak is over as the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado defeated the Cardinals for the first time since 2005. Mayfield's 17-game winning streak was the longest for either side in the 110-year history of the series. 

It was a fourth down conversion that went 24 yards from Jack James to Amari Williams to put the Blue Tornado on the board first at the 4:15 mark in the first quarter. Mayfield tied the game at seven with 5:59 left in the second quarter. 

However, the Blue Tornado quickly snapped the tie just seconds later as James found Martels Carter on a 60-yard connection to put Tilghman back up 14-7 with 5:15 left in the second quarter.  Mayfield answer nearly as quickly to tie the game at 14 with 3:52 remaining in the half.

The game looked to stay tied going into the half until James managed to run one in to help Paducah Tilghman go back on top 21-14 with 0:36 remaining in the half.

Tilghman struck early in the third when James found Carter again to give the Blue Tornado their biggest lead of the night at 28-14 with 10:41 remaining in the third quarter. Mayfield scored at the 8:44 mark in the third quarter to pull within seven, then tied the game back up at 28 each at the 3:21 mark.

The final score of the night came early in the fourth quarter as Tilghman scored on a run from inside the five-yard line to go up 35-28. Mayfield had one final chance as they went for it on 4th and 7, but Zane Cartwright’s pass was picked off giving Tilghman the football and the win. 

Paducah Tilghman (3-0) will face Henderson County (1-3) on the road next week. Mayfield (2-1) will host McCracken County (2-1). 


Murray 35, Marshall County 6
At 3-0 now on the season it's the best start for Murray High in over a decade when the Tigers started 3-0 before losing to Mayfield in week 4 of the 2012 season.

The Class 2A Tigers have wins this season over a 3A, 4A and 5A opponent, in that order. 

It was all Murray all night as the Tigers jumped out to a modest 7-0 to end the first quarter and 14-0 at the half.

he Tigers added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 28-0 heading into the fourth quarter. 

Murray would get three touchdowns from Collin Wilson and two from Zavion Carman.

The Tigers will face Union County (3-0) on the road next week. The Marshals (1-2) will travel to Calloway County (1-2).


Calloway County 47, Fulton County 14
The Lakers picked up their first win since September 24, 2021. It was a dominant performance for an improved team that snapped a 16-game losing streak since that last win.

The Lakers (1-2) will host Marshall County (1-2) next week. Fulton County (0-3) will  travel to face Obion County Central (Troy), TN.


Graves County 41, McEwen, TN 6
The Eagles entered Friday night seeking their first win of the season and Coach Lance Gregory his 70th. With the win Gregory is tied with Jay Buckley for the most wins as head coach of the Eagles.

The Eagles had three touchdowns from Lincoln Acree, two from Denis Marrs and one from Brayden Woodward as they put up the running clock on the Warriors. 

Graves County (1-2) will travel to face Caldwell County (0-3) next week.
