Racing is set to return to Paducah International Raceway next week for the first time in 4 years.

The high-banked 3/8 mile dirt track, which opened in 1972 and hosted such premier events as the World 50, shut down after missing the 2017 season and held only an abbreviated 2018 calendar.

The new owners, Adam and Brittany Elliott, have been hard at work on renovations and forming a new schedule. All the work comes to a payoff on Friday May 20th, when the green flag flies on the new season.

Tyler Bell from PIR told The Greg Dunker Show that Paducah International Raceway means as much to the new owners, as it does to longtime fans.

“It really has been a labor of love for Adam Elliott, the new owner and his wife, Brittany. They have put so much time and sweat and energy into this that they won't let this fail again. I'm so proud of them and I know that it's going to be incredible.”

The track will have racing on its traditional Friday nights. The opening night will feature 6 classes, including Super Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Quicksilver Street Stocks, and more.

Bell added that the tradition, and the type of cars and teams coming to PIR will appeal to the fans.

“Dirt track racing really, really has a life here in Paducah and it has for a long time... many, many years.”
