This year's Murray State football season kicks off Sept. 3 in Lubbock, Texas against Texas Tech. Home games this season at Roy Stewart Stadium include Sept. 10 with Jacksonville State, Sept. 24 against Eastern Illinois, Oct. 8 with UT Martin, Oct. 29 versus Tennessee State, and Nov. 12 with Robert Morris. This is the last season for the Racers in the Ohio Valley Conference, a league that Murray State helped form in 1948. Last January, the Racers announced their intention to move to the Missouri Valley Conference.
This week the Missouri Valley Football Conference announced its 2023 league schedule, including teams that play other sports in the MVC, Summit and Horizon leagues.
In 2023 Murray State kicks off its 99th season of collegiate football on Sept. 3 when it welcomes Presbyterian for the home opener. Then the Racers will travel across the Commonwealth to take on Louisville Sept. 9, followed by the first meeting with Middle Tennessee in over two decades Sept. 16 in Murfreesboro.
The Racers begin their tenure in the MVFC with the 2023 league opener at home Sept. 30 against Indiana State.
The Racers play at Roy Stewart Stadium Oct. 14 with Southern Illinois. MSU begins the month at South Dakota Oct. 7, followed by back-to-back road games at Missouri State Oct. 14 and at nine-time national champion North Dakota State Oct. 21.
Murray State returns home Nov. 4 to host North Dakota, followed by a trip to Illinois State Nov. 11. The Racers close out their first season in the MVFC Nov. 18 when they welcome the Penguins of Youngstown State.
