The Marshall County girls and Calloway County boys will be the western Kentucky representatives at this year's Sweet Sixteen state touraments in Rupp Arena.
This year's First Region Tournament featured 4th District rematches in both of the championship games. In both the boys and girls title games, Calloway County and Marshall County squared off for the fourth time this season.
Girls Basketball
It was Marshall County picking up their third consecutive win over Calloway County with a 40-27 in the title game on Saturday.
The Lady Marshals trailed 14-6 at the half after scoring just one point in the second quarter. However, they turned things around and took the lead in the second half with a 21-5 third quarter performance.
Skylar Waller and Addi Wall led the Lady Marshals with 12 and 11 points.
Sayler Lowe had 11 for Calloway.
The Lady Marshals will play 2nd Region champion Henderson County Thursday at 5 pm in Rupp Arena in the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Girls Basketball Sweet 16.
Boys Basketball
The Lakers were the only team this season to beat the Marshals, and they did it three times, including Sunday's 73-56 win on Sunday.
The Lakers led start to finish in winning their 31st game of the year. Jonah Butler paced the Lakers with 24 points, along with 21 from Eli Finley, Conner Lockhart with 12, and Luke Armstrong 10.
That offset the Marshals' Matthew Langhi with 23, Kyzer Phillips 11, and Ryan Stokes 10 points.
Calloway will face the Region 16 champion on March 26th at 7:30pm in the UK HealthCare Boys Basketball Sweet 16.
