Henderson County applied suffocating defense that resulted in 13 steals, and Marshall County fell to the Lady Colonels 45-30 in the first round of the girls basketball Sweet 16 on Thursday at Rupp Arena.
The Lady Marshals got behind early, trailing 12-4 after the first quarter. They outscored the 2nd Region champs 19-9 in the second period, but still trailed 21-17 at the half. The Lady Colonels went on a 16-4 run in the third quarter to take charge of the game en route to the win.
Marshall County shot 34% from the floor and 27% from three, while Henderson County (28-5) shot 49% from the floor, but just 17% from three.
The Lady Marshals did not have a player score double figures. They were led by Skyler Waller's eight points. Kenzlee Terry finished with seven, Addi Wall had six, Rylee Teague and Charleigh Duncan each with three, Laken Schroader with two and Eden Sandlin with one.
Marshall County, who won the school's 25th overall regional championship, finishes the season with a 25-7 record.
