An instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin recently presented a documentary she created concerning African-American contributions to country music.
Henri Giles presented her documentary “Waiting in the Wings: African-Americans in Country Music” June 7 at the National Museum of African-American Music in Nashville, in the lead-up to the Country Music Association Festival.
The National Museum of African-American Music is celebrating Black Music Month this June.
Giles is an instructor in the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Mass Media and Strategic Communication, who produced “Waiting in the Wings” in 2004. It features the history of country music through the African-American perspective, starting with its roots in slavery and moving to the 21st century.
