The Ten Commandments monument, given to the commonwealth in 1971 by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, was restored to the Kentucky Capitol grounds in Frankfort's Monument Park.
The monument had been removed from the Capitol grounds in the 1980s during construction and remained in storage until now.
The restoration came through the passage of House Joint Resolution (HJR) 15 authored by State Rep. Shane Baker, R-Somerset.
It passed the House 79-13 and the Senate 32-6.
The Family Foundation was a strong supporter of the passage to bring the monument back to the Capitol grounds.
Baker said he was pleased to have the historic monument in its rightful place.
“The Ten Commandments have widely recognized historical significance in the history of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the nation. This monument is part of an old tradition of public monuments and displays that acknowledge the Ten Commandments’ role in our heritage.”
