Officer Henry Franklin was part of the Tactical Team from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety that joined in the service of a warrant at a home in Mississippi County. A suspect inside the home fired on officers, striking and killing Franklin. Reports indicate that two others died in the incident, including the suspect.
Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director James McMillen said, “Our department has suffered an unimaginable loss. We ask that you keep Franklin’s family and our department in your prayers.”
Franklin had been with the department since 2013, after his retirement from the United States Army. Franklin leaves behind a wife and four children.
Flags will fly at half-staff until after the funeral. Arrangements have not yet been announced.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said he is heartbroken by the events and said that he and his wife are praying for Officer Franklin’s family, department, and all who knew him. He also offered thanks for the work done every day by law enforcement across Missouri.
