Record 45 million Americans will travel on Memorial Day weekend

AAA projects that a record 45 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home during the Memorial Day holiday period, which spans from Thursday to Monday.

This is an increase of 1.4 million travelers compared to last year. The previous record was set in 2005, with 44 million travelers. 

AAA estimates that 39 million people will travel by car over the Memorial Day weekend—an increase of one million compared to last year. 

Afternoons during the Memorial Day weekend will see the heaviest traffic, with the best time for travelers to hit the road in the morning hours.
