President Donald Trump has appointed podcaster and radio host Dan Bongino as deputy director of the FBI.

Trump posted on social media Sunday night that Bongino was "a man of incredible love and passion for our country" and would serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.

Bongino, 50, has worked for the New York police department and for the Secret Service. He ran unsuccessfully for political office and gained fame as a conservative pundit with TV shows.

The Senate confirmed Kash Patel as FBI director on Thursday. Bongino's appointment does not require Senate confirmation.

Bongino's radio program is currently heard on the Supertalk news/talk stations of Paducah and Mayfield. Bongino’s network, Westwood One, issued a statement that Bongino would step away from his daily radio show on March 14.
