Kentucky's attorney general says the state will receive $110 million to settle its lawsuit accusing one of the nation's largest grocery chains of helping fuel the opioid epidemic.
The money from the settlement will go toward combatting opioid addiction in Kentucky. The state has had some of the nation’s highest overdose death rates.
Attorney General Russell Coleman announced the settlement Thursday. His office sued Kroger last February claiming its pharmacies helped fuel the opioid crisis.
Kroger, which is headquartered in Ohio and is one of the biggest grocery chains in Kentucky, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the settlement.
