Kentucky State Police (KSP) at the Madisonville Post are continuing their investigation into a shooting in Muhlenberg County over the weekend, which has led to a Hopkins County man being jailed on several charges.
According to the KSP, Muhlenberg County Dispatch contacted them around 7 Saturday night, regarding multiple calls reporting a man with a firearm making threats on Beech Creek Road in Beech Creek.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Harvey Lear, 62, of Nortonville, is suspected of shooting a man from Todd County. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. Neither his name nor his condition has been released by authorities.
Lear was arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree (a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (a Class D felony with a potential one to five year prison sentence, if convicted), Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree (a Class C felony), Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree on foot (a Class C felony), Resisting Arrest (a Class A misdemeanor with up to a year in jail), Tampering with Physical Evidence (a Class D felony), and False Report of an Incident Resulting in an Emergency Response (a Class D felony).
Lear has been lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.
