Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency for Kentucky after the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for early Saturday morning until midday on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The National Weather Service has put the entire state under a flood watch, along with most of Tennessee and parts of eight other states.

Meteorologists said river flooding is very likely over the weekend through next week as well as widespread areal and isolated flash flooding. Another 2 to 5 inches of rain is expected to fall after previous rain the past several days in the state.

Among the Governor’s actions, activating the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center and units of the Kentucky National Guard stand ready to respond.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials and crews have also been placed on alert, and local emergency management leaders are working to keep each county's residents informed.

Beshear also activated the state’s emergency operations center.
