The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Federal Highway Administration are seeking public comment on the draft of Kentucky's Section 106 Programmatic Agreement.

That document is used to guide how federally funded transportation projects comply with the National Historic Preservation Act to balance transportation improvements with the preservation of Kentucky's historic resources.

Section 106 requires agencies to consider the effects of highway projects on historic buildings, structures, or objects significant because of their association with important events, people, architecture, engineering, archaeology or other aspects of shared history. Many of these items are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The draft will help determine how adverse effects can be avoided or minimized.

The draft agreement is available online at KYTC’s Division of Environmental Analysis website under the Cultural Resources section. The public has 30 days to review and make comments.

For additional information, contact the KYTC Division of Environmental Analysis at (502) 564-7250.

Comments may also be submitted via standard mail or email to Daniel B. Davis and will be accepted through July 16 at: Daniel.Davis@ky.gov, or by mail to Daniel B. Davis, Environmental Control Manager, Cultural Resource Branch, Division of Environmental Analysis, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, 200 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40622.
