The latest measure to further Kentucky's nuclear development ambitions will soon be delivered to Governor Beshear for consideration.

Senate Bill 57, sponsored by Senator Danny Carroll of Paducah, has obtained approval by the Kentucky Senate and House.  The legislation will establish the Nuclear Reactor Site Readiness Pilot Program.

The bill seeks to garner state-backed funding for nuclear projects by assisting with federal permits up to $25 million per approved project.

The bill would also require communities to be "nuclear ready." Final authorization of a project would have to be approved by the General Assembly.

Carroll said the pilot program would create long-lasting economic opportunties in regions across the state.
