It didn't take long for the first heat wave of the season to make its mark in our area.

On Sunday, the streets of Cape Girardeau buckled in the heat in two locations as the heat index rose above 102.

On Siemers Drive on the city's west side, a large section of concrete cracked and rose up about 18 inches, leaving one lane impassable.

A public works crew removed the concrete and replaced it with asphalt.

A smaller buckle also forced the closure of a lane on the 2200 block of Broadway.
