Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while speaking with students at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, was the highest trending search of 2025 in the United States, according to data released by Google on Thursday.

Netflix's smash hit "KPop Demon Hunters" followed closely behind with monster dolls Labubus third on the list of trending topics. iPhone 17 and President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act completed the top five.

The rest of the top ten for the year: Zohran Mamdani, DeepSeek, the government shutdown, FIFA World Cup and tariffs.

Google's data was taken from Jan. 1 through Nov. 25. The company said, "2025 Year in Search compiles the moments, people, topics, events and places that captured the world’s attention this year."

Other categories gathered by Google include news, people, passings, entertainment, sports, music, lifestyle and internet trends.

The Year in Search can also be filtered by individual countries, or the globe's most popular searches in 2025 or in previous years.
