Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell is asking for restrictions to be loosened on dyed diesel fuel to help offset Kentucky farmers record fuel costs.

Shell is asking Attorney General Russell Coleman and Governor Andy Beshear to temporarily suspend restrictions through the remainder of the harvest season in Kentucky. The supension would allow farm vehicles to use the dyed diesel on public roads.

Dyed diesel is a tax-exempt fuel that is typically used in tractors, combines and other off-road agricultural equipment. Currently, state law prohibits the use of dyed diesel on public roadways.
