The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a wind advisory for our entire region. In fact, the advisory is for a swath of 13 states, starting tonight in Texas and continuing through Wednesday night in eastern Kentucky.

Our local advisory is in effect from noon Tuesday until 6 pm Wednesday.  Forecasters say southwest winds of 15 to 25 miles per hours with gusts to 40 miles per hour are expected.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result. Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

The forecast also includes some heavy rains Tuesday afternoon and night.

High winds were also the topic of discussion on this date two years ago. Paducah experienced its lowest barometric pressure reading in history on March 3, 2023 at 977.7 millibars, or 28.87 inches of mercury. The extreme low pressure generated 60-mph winds at Paducah, 65 mph in Mayfield, and up to 71 mph between Murray and Hopkinsville.
