A Paducah couple got an early wakeup call Thursday followed by a trip to jail as McCracken County Sheriff's deputies served search warrants as part of a drug investigation.

The Drug Division of the McCracken County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation after a tip alleged that 42-year-old Jerick Carruthers of Paducah was dealing in illegal drugs. During the investigation, detectives were allegedly able to make multiple undercover purchases of meth and fentanyl from Carruthers.

Detectives obtained and then executed search warrants around 6 a.m. Thursday on a pair of residences in Paducah, one on McGuire Avenue and the other on Cruse Avenue. Carruthers, 35-year-old Laura Martinez-Brown, and a child were located at the McGuire Avenue address. The searches reportedly uncovered fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine, along with cash believed to be from drug sales Detectives said some of the drugs were stashed in a wooded area near one of the addresses. The total street value of the drugs is approximately $10,000.

According to records, Carruthers has prior convictions for trafficking which enhance the current charges. He is accused of trafficking in fentanyl and meth, possession of marijuana, cocaine, and hydrocodone, wanton endangerment, and outstanding warrants from McCracken County for trafficking in fentanyl and meth.

Martinez-Brown is charged with possession of hydrocodone, cocaine, and marijuana, along with wanton endangerment.

Both were taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
