The National Weather Service office in Paducah says it doesn't see anything extreme in its spring flooding forecast for the region's major rivers.
The weather service said the risk of spring flooding on the Ohio and Wabash Rivers is near normal. Minor flooding is expected, and isolated moderate flooding is possible.
For the Mississippi River, forecasters said the spring flooding risk should be near to below normal.
Many factors go into the spring flooding forecast, including soil moisture, departure from normal rainfall, the winter snow pack, and long-term outlooks.
Meteorologists said that in this case, current drought conditions, abnormally dry soil moisture and below-normal snowpack to our north contributed to their prediction of below-normal flood risk.
However, they warn that if we receive above-average precipitation over the next few months, that forecast for flooding could change.
