US 62 Cairo bridge to close daily for inspections starting next week

The US 60/62 Mississippi River Bridge at Cairo is scheduled to be closed daily beginning next week for an annual safety inspection.

The bridge will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 11, through Friday, Aug. 15, and again from Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the closure is necessary for crews to conduct the required annual safety inspection of the bridge.

The 96-year-old bridge connects Alexander County, Illinois, to Mississippi County, Missouri.

Past inspections forced the bridge to be closed for repairs in 2011, 2015 and 2023.
