Two Trigg County men were arrested over the weekend after deputies said two small children were found alone in poor living conditions.

Deputies said they noticed 26-year-old Joseph Knight passed out in a vehicle in front of a home and was known to have active warrants.

Two small children under the age of six were reportedly found alone inside the house. Deputies said the front door was wide open, and the children were surrounded by dirty diapers, liquor bottles, trash, and a rifle.

In addition, Knight reportedly told authorities he was only aware of one child until a second came crying and walking outside.

Soon after, the father of the children, 25-year-old Sean Meador, arrived at the home and said he had left the children in Knight's care.

They were both charged with criminal abuse and public intoxication.

The children were placed with relatives.
