A traffic stop Wednesday morning leads to a pursuit and the arrest of a Paducah man.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said around 9:30 am they were investigating illegal drug activity when they noticed 39-year-old Anthony L. Nance, Jr. operating a vehicle near the intersection of 16th Street and Park Avenue.

Detectives were familiar with Nance and knew he was on felony probation and wanted on outstanding felony warrants for trafficking in cocaine.

They attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Nance immediately fled, leading detectives and deputies on a short pursuit. The pursuit ended near 24th Street and Laclede Avenue after Nance’s vehicle ran out of fuel. Nance was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Detectives recovered bags of crack cocaine and synthetic marijuana that Nance discarded from the vehicle during the pursuit. Additional bags of synthetic marijuana were located inside the vehicle. The investigation further indicated Nance was under the influence of cocaine, synthetic marijuana, Vyvanse, and other substances at the time of his arrest.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at Nance’s residence in the 5600 block of Old Mayfield Road, where they located a handgun, additional drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

Paducah Police assisted in the investigation. Nance was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
