Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are ramping up efforts to reconstruct traffic signals in downtown Mayfield that were damaged by the tornado.

Work first started in February, but now additional electrical crews are working along US 45, KY 80, KY 58, and KY 121 in downtown Mayfield.

Several of the old traffic signals and supports in the court square are being removed as traffic signals and beacons will be reconstructed at 6 intersections.

During the work, drivers will encounter intermittent blockages, sometimes for 5 to 15 minutes.

Four-way stop signs will continue to control traffic until the new signals are ready to be placed into service in late summer.

Electrical crews are also restoring lighting at several Interstate 69 interchanges where poles were damaged or destroyed by the tornado.
