A typical spell of August weather brings daily chances for thunderstorms into the weekend, then a return to triple-digit heat index readings next week.

Thursday through Saturday includes up to a 50-50 chance for a thunderstorm. The cloud cover will help keep highs under 90 in most locations.

There's a low end threat for a few strong to severe storms on Thursday night.

By Sunday, increasing heat and humidity will bring back highs in the low 90s and daily peak heat indices of 100 to 105 through at least the first half of the week.

Something to look forward to this month: August 20 marks the end of fifty straight days that Paducah's historical average high temperature is 90 degrees.

Daily highs average 88 by the end of the month, 78 by the end of September, and 65 by Halloween.
