A Symsonia man was charged after he allegedly assaulted an umpire at a youth baseball game in Lone Oak on Thursday.

McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Lone Oak baseball and softball fields after a 911 caller stated an umpire was being assaulted. When deputies arrived, the suspect had already fled the area. 

The victim stated that a parent was upset over the victim’s umpiring performance during an 11-year-old baseball game. The victim and witnesses stated that the male, identified as 48-year-old Keith Peek, assaulted the victim and placed the victim in a chokehold. 

The victim stated that he was beginning to lose consciousness and a witness stated that the victim’s face was turning purple. The victim also sustained a chipped tooth.
 
Deputies went to Symsonia, with Graves County Sheriff’s Office deputies, in an attempt to locate Peek at his residence. Deputies were unable to locate Peek throughout the night. 

Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Peek for assault of a sports official, Strangulation, menacing, and terroristic threatening. 

On Friday Peek turned himself in at the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office. He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail on a $5,000 bond and released. More charges are possible in the case.
