Phone scams involving large sums of currency are continuing to be reported in McCracken County.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said in a recent report, investigators learned the victim was told by a scammer on the phone to go to a local business and deposit several thousand dollars into a CoinStar machine.
Reports are often received victims were contacted by someone claiming to be law enforcement, and "bond money" is demanded in lieu of an arrest warrant. The scammer will bully victims with threats of arrest if their demands are not met.
Authorities will never contact you by phone and threaten you with arrest for bond money.
Over the next couple of weeks, signs will be posted at different locations to assist in warning victims that they could be getting scammed.
The Sheriff's Office asks that citizens stay vigilant of these criminal acts and if they see someone that appears confused or frantic to call law enforcement.
