A series of five small earthquakes were recorded within a 25-mile circle in New Madrid and Pemiscot counties of southeast Missouri on Monday morning.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first quake was recorded around midnight, about 3 miles southeast of Hayward. The preliminary report showed this one had a magnitude of 2.0.
Shortly after, at around 12:08 a.m., a tremor measured at 2.2 was detected 4 miles southeast of Matthews.
At around 12:27 a.m., the USGS reported a magnitude 2.7 earthquake just west of Howardville, or 15 miles west of Hickman, Kentucky.
The next earthquake, a magnitude 2.1, was recorded southwest of Howardville at 4:27 a.m.
Finally, a magnitude 2.2, was recorded around 7:30 a.m. just north of Marston.
