Storms pack 80-MPH winds, down more trees and power lines

Straight-line winds clocked on radar at more than 80 miles an hour brought down trees and power lines across the region with a fast-moving storm late Monday night.

Activity began in Bollinger County, Missouri before 10 p.m. with several trees down and reports of quarter-sized hail. A large tree was uprooted and snapped near Poplar Bluff.

In southern Illinois, several trees were blown down and a semi trailer blew over near Mounds in Pulaski County. Power lines were knocked down in Alexander County.

By midnight, the National Weather Service received numerous reports of trees blown down across Paducah and McCracken County. On Cunningham Road in West Paducah, power lines were brought down into a tree which caught fire.

Mayfield also reported a number of trees knocked down by the winds, which continue to hit Eddyville and the lakes area.
