Storms do damage, knock out power across western Kentucky

Some strong storms moved across western Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon bringing down trees and power lines and causing some damage.

Damage reports to the National Weather Service Office in Paducah included poles and power lines down just northeast of Murray in Calloway County. The reports came from the emergency management office in Murray. They also reported debris being spotted along the roadsides and in fields.

There were reports of multiple homes with roof damage and some trees reported down near Columbus in Hickman County. 

In Carlisle County near Arlington, reports indicated some roof damage to a church and a tree on a trailer. Also reports of a tree on a carport and a truck and another carport was said to have been lifted, striking a house and a utility pole.

In Kuttawa a home received damage when a tree fell on it.

Trees were also reported down in McCracken and Marshall counties. Posts on social media showed uprooted trees in places and some sparking power lines.

West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative reported almost 6,000 customers lost power after the tornado-warned storm moved through portions of Calloway, Marshall, and Trigg Counties on Wednesday.  

Meanwhile, Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative reported around 1,200 customers lost power. According to their damage assessment, approximately 15 poles were broken during the storms.

Pennyrile Electric reported 1300 customers lost power in Lyon County, as did 150 Kenergy customers.

Outage maps from both JPEC and WKRECC show power has been restored.
