Kentucky State Police announced the discovery of a missing Hickman County woman. 

KSP said they were contacted by the Weakley County Tennessee Sheriff's office on Monday, after deputies located the vehicle belonging to 73-year-old Virginia Emerson.

Deputies said human remains were in the vehicle. The remains were sent to Nashville for an autopsy at the Tennessee State Medical Examiner's office. The autopsy confirmed it was Virginia Emerson.

Emerson's death is still under investigation.

The Kentucky State Police still seek the public's help in locating a woman reported missing for more than a week.

Police are searching for 73-year-old Virginia Emerson of Hickman. Emerson last made contact with her family on December 12. She has dementia and may be experiencing a medical emergency. Her disappearance is not believed to be tornado related.

Emerson is 5 feet 6 inches tall, approximately 155 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. Her last known location through a phone ping was in Obion County, Tennessee, on US-51 near Bethlehem Road. 

Police have followed several leads, and searched the area near her home to no avail.

Her vehicle is a 2014 black Ford Fusion with Kentucky license plate 900 VXH.
