Spring officially arrives on Friday morning. The vernal equinox will occur at 9:46 a.m. when the sun crosses directly over the equator back into the northern hemisphere.
In our region, that's good timing for a significant warming trend, as temperatures rise 15-25 degrees above normal by this weekend.
Highs today will rise to 72, then 79 on Friday. Weekend highs will soar to 82 on Saturday and 86 will be possible in places on Sunday. That would break Paducah's all-time record of 82 set in 1938.
A cold front will bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms east of the Mississippi River on Sunday evening.
After that front passes, temperatures will cool back to near normal late March values early next week. Paducah's historical average daily high for next week is 63 degrees.
