Traffic was stopped on I-64 in southern Illinois on Friday morning when a home-built ultralight aircraft made an emergency landing on the interstate.

Illinois State Police were alerted about the incident at 8:20 a.m.

The aircraft reportedly had mechanical problems and the pilot brought it down near Mount Vernon in Jefferson County, about 80 miles east of St. Louis.

The plane reportedly hit a guardrail during the landing, but the pilot was not injured.

Traffic was slowed through the area until the aircraft was loaded onto a trailer and hauled away.
