A complaint of shoplifting led to charges for two Mayfield residents on Sunday.

The Mayfield Police Department reports that officers responded to a local department store to investigate a shoplifting complaint.

Officers say that 38-year-old Edward Williams and 39-year-old Johnna Osborne were found to be in possession of stolen merchandise, and were detained.

During an investigation, it was found that Williams had an active arrest warrant out of Graves County. They also discovered that there was an active Emergency Protection Order in place between Williams and Osborne. In addition, a search allegedly found a plastic baggy with a white powdery substance in Williams' pants pocket.

Williams was arrested on the Graves County warrant for a probation violation, and also charged with theft by unlawful taking, violation of a Kentucky EPO, and drug offenses. He was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Osborne was cited to the Graves County Court for theft by unlawful taking.
