It appears that September could start with at least one more round of excessive heat and humidity that includes our region.
The National Climate Prediction Center has included western Kentucky on the perimeter of a slight to moderate risk of extreme heat beginning next Tuesday.
The highest risk for extreme heat is centered in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, but we could also see a moderate risk of 90-degree days and triple-digit heat index readings next Tuesday through Thursday.
There is a slight risk that the oppressive heat could linger through Labor Day.
Paducah's historical average daily high for the first week of September is 87.
