The Dorena-Hickman ferry went back into service on Thursday as the Mississippi River level has risen significantly over the past few days.

For a number of days, the river gauge at Cairo has been at low threshold around 7 feet, but since Wednesday Mississippi has risen to over 20 feet due to runoff from multiple inches of rain in central Missouri that caused widespread flooding.

The ferry has changed over to its winter schedule. The last ferry out of Kentucky will be at 4:15 p.m., and the last ferry from Missouri will leave at 4:30 .
