A Rosiclare man was arrested on Sunday in Massac County, charged with DUI after police spotted him with a truck loaded with Illinois road signs.
Metropolis Police said a sergeant spotted a pickup truck near US 45 and IL 145. He reportedly noticed that there were Illinois Department of Transportation highway signs in the bed of the truck and strapped to the roof.
Police said that 47-year-old Jason W. Hayden told them he thought the signs had been tossed aside and he planned to sell them for scrap.
The sergeant reported that he smelled alcohol on Hayden's breath. Hayden submitted to a field sobriety test and is said to have failed. Police also allegedly found an open beer bottle in the truck.
Hayden was arrested and charged with DUI as well as illegal transportation of open alcohol. He could face more charges should IDOT file a complaint.
