The man who shot and killed a McCracken County teacher two years ago pleaded guilty to her murder on Tuesday.
Commonwealth Attorney Dan Boaz said Kelvin Richardson's guilty plea was accepted in McCracken County District Court Tuesday. At the same time, Richardson's sentencing hearing will be on May 4, where he is to be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
McCracken County teacher Carrie D. McCord was helping Richardson adjust to life outside of prison. In March of 2020, they said Richardson began causing problems for McCord and she took out a protective order against him.
A month later, Richardson went to McCord's home with the intention to kill her and three neighbors who intervened in an earlier incident. He confronted her and demanded she call the neighbors outside so he could kill them. When she refused, he shot her.
McCord was a beloved teacher who taught in many local districts, including McCracken County, Crittenden and Paducah Public Schools.
