According to the financial tech company Smart Asset, Clarksville is ranked one of the 25 fastest-growing cities in the United States over the past five years.
The company reportedly examined U.S. population data from 344 cities with populations over 100,000 to find out which had the highest growth rate from 2017 to 2022.
The state of Tennessee had two cities ranked in the top 25. Murfreesboro came in at No. 16 with a growth percentage of 19.1%. Clarksville was at No. 22 with 15.5%.
From 2017 to 2022, Clarksville went from a population of 153,210 to 176,977, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Buckeye, Arizona, had the highest growth rate in the nation at 54.3%.
2022 numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau had already shown that Clarksville had gained most new residents in each of the previous two years, even more than Nashville.
Clarksville is the fifth-largest city in the state, but is poised to overtake #4 Chattanooga (184,000) and #3 Knoxville (196,000). The top two cities in the state are Nashville (683,000) and Memphis (621,000).
