A repeat DUI offender was arrested after a major accident on Cairo Road on Sunday.
A deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was flagged down by multiple witnesses who said they saw the driver of the crashed vehicle climb out and take off on foot towards a wooded area.
The deputy pursued 48-year-old Karl Alexander. The deputy gave several commands for Alexander to stop, but he reportedly did not comply. Alexander, who was bleeding from his head, climbed out of a creek and continued to flee.
The deputy caught Alexander in a field where he said Alexander still did not want to listen to commands. Alexander was placed into handcuffs and arrested.
Alexander was taken to Baptist Health Hospital where he was treated, then charged with reckless driving, driving DUI suspended, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, fleeing or evading and leaving the scene of an accident.
