The mayor and city council in Princeton could soon be getting pay increases beginning in 2027.

WPKY reported during a meeting Monday night, the City Council passed first reading of an ordinance that would increase council members pay to $3,931.32 annually which breaks down to $327.61 per month.

The measure also increases the mayor's salary to $51,440.33.  That figure was set following an amendment to the ordinance by councilwoman Shelia Gates, who noted it was unclear who would win the November general election.

In the original ordinance, the mayor's salary was to be increased from its current $42,500 salary to a proposed $46,440.33 figure.

The council will vote on second reading of the ordinance at a special call meeting Wednesday.
