Charges are pending against a Princeton man after a standoff Monday night ended when the suspect reportedly sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Caldwell County deputies went to a home on East Shephardson Street after a man had allegedly brandished a firearm at medical emergency personnel that responded to a call at the residence.
After Princeton police officers and deputies arrived, 70–year old Richard A. Oliver reportedly pointed a firearm at them and barricaded himself in the home.
Kentucky State Police negotiators attempted to mediate a peaceful resolution with Oliver for nearly 4 hours.
Officers later heard Oliver calling for help and observed him lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said it’s unknown whether the gunshot wound was accidental or intentional.
Oliver was transported to Caldwell County Hospital and transferred to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
