Kentucky State Police released findings from their preliminary investigation into an armed robbery, pursuit and officer-involved shooting in Graves County on December 31st.

Glasgow police, assisting Mayfield police, pursued the suspect's vehicle on US 45 with reported shots fired at the officers. Officers lost sight of the suspects and ended the pursuit.

KSP troopers spotted the vehicle and resumed pursuit of 25-year-old James A. Hawks of Dresden, Tennessee. His passenger, 26-year-old Isaiah P. Bentley of Lexington, Kentucky, allegedly fired at Trooper William Propes, who returned fire. Bentley was struck, and the pursuit ended near the Graves-McCracken county line. No law enforcement officers were injured.

Bentley was transported to Baptist Hospital in Paducah where he was treated and released, and taken to the McCracken County Jail. Hawks was also arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail.

Bentley was charged with attempted murder of a police officer and robbery. Hawks was also charged with robbery.

As per policy, Trooper Propes was placed on administrative leave. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is still investigating the incident.
