A Paducah woman was arrested after she admitted to stealing from her employer for at least the past five years, according to Paducah Police.
A local business owner told police on March 28 that a former employee bookkeeper had been stealing from the business. He said that since 2020, she had stolen more than $100,000. The bookeeper quit her job the first of last month.
Detectives interviewed the woman Monday. She allegedly admitted stealing approximately $175,000 from the business to pay her rent and routine personal bills, to fund trips and pay for car repairs, among other things.
The woman, 48-year-old Stephanie A. Burkhart, was arrested on a charge of theft by unlawful taking (more than $10,000). She was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
