A Paducah Police officer was honored for her bravery during a potentially deadly situation in June.

Officer Brooke Adams was awarded the Meritorious Service Award during the Paducah Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.

The police department said officer Adams’ swift actions during an active-shooter incident at the Greyhound Bus Station “undoubtedly saved lives” and showed the “highest standards of courage, duty and service.”

On June 29, Adams was in search of a missing man when she entered the bus station parking lot, and saw a man actively shooting at bystanders. Police said that without hesitation, Adams confronted the armed man and told him to drop the gun.

The shooter, later identified as 47-year-old John Bryan of Paducah, complied and Adams took him into custody.

Police said one man did suffer a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Paducah Police said they are incredibly proud of officer Adams and that her courage is “an inspiration to all and reflects the very best of the Paducah Police Department."
