The Paducah Police Department named a new assistant police chief last week.

Captain Joe Hayes was named to the post on Thursday, and was officially pinned with the badge of his new rank during a ceremony and reception on Saturday.

Hayes has been with the police department since 2004.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2010 and to Captain in 2015.  He currently oversees the department's special units, which include Bomb Squad, SWAT and K9 units.
