A Paducah man was arrested for the unlawful purchase of a handgun following a complaint Tuesday about shots fired.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the area of Albany Street around 1:15 pm for the complaint. Deputies said 21-year-old Nash G. McMillen had been target practicing in the back yard with a newly purchased handgun. They determined McMillen had been firing into a book at a downward angle in the back yard.
McMillen was familiar to the deputies from a previous encounter in 2022 when he was trespassed from McCracken County Schools. He has had no other contact with law enforcement until Tuesday.
On Wednesday deputies determined McMillen had unlawfully purchased the handgun at a local business. McMillen had a prior assault arrest for domestic violence, which makes it a crime to purchase firearms.
McMillen was arrested and charged with fraudulent firearm transaction.
