A Paducah family farm is collecting items for flood victims in eastern Kentucky.
Garrett Farms has some ties to the Hazard area, and feel the pull to help. Mariana Garrett and Adam Martin plan to drive a 26 foot box truck to Hazard on Saturday, delivering needed items to victims in the flood zone.
"We're taking money collections and supplies. I've been talking to the people that are taking care of the donations in Hazard, so they need can openers, because they are getting a lot of canned goods, but don't have a way to open them."
Garrett said that cleaning supplies, shovels, brooms, and squeegees are also much needed items. Another need, not often thought of, mosquito repellent. With people working outside, mosquitoes are becoming a problem in some areas.
Garrett said if people want to help, they can drop off their donations at the Garrett Farms stand located at 2385 John L. Puryear Drive in Paducah. They are open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and would like to have items dropped off by Friday evening, so they can be loaded for their Saturday departure.
