During Tuesday's special called meeting of the Paducah Board of Commissioners, Mayor Pro-Tem Sandra Wilson asked the city place on its next meeting agenda a request from Paducah Cooperative Ministry regarding funds to assist in the construction of a new 50-bed shelter.

Commissioners voiced their support in adding the item to an upcoming meeting.

McCracken County Fiscal Court recently approved providing $200,000 toward PCM’s its "Share a New Start" capital campaign, which aims to build an emergency shelter and expand their food pantry..

The county's first installation of $100,000 would come immediately and the second amount would follow upon construction completion.

To date, PCM has has received $1.98 million in pledges and donations to the capital campaign, more than halfway to the total goal of $3.25 million.

The new facility will offer personal storage, shower facilities, meals and support from trained community health workers.

Paducah Cooperative Ministry, founded in 1973, works  in partnership with local churches, businesses, and volunteers to alleviate poverty, hunger, and homelessness in McCracken County.
